GVK Power & Infrastructure may be in the red but the company’s first power plant at Jegurupadu in Andhra Pradesh is bent on green. Apart from 300 varieties of trees and plants on its campus, there is also a mini zoo, recognised by the Central Zoo Authority, on 6 hectares. The area simulates a forest environment, with the fauna including chital, peacocks, swans, and nilgai. The zoo is open to the public, with students from various educational institutions in the vicinity among regular visitors. The power plant is spread over 200 acres, of which about 40 acres is meant for the power equipment and about 160 acres is landscaped green. Production is gas-based, so the site is virtually pollution free. A water tank with a capacity of 100,000 litres helps keep the campus green and run-off water from the plant is treated onsite and recycled.
